Our world now seems so intolerant and seemingly ignorant of how the very fabric of this country is made up of immigrants. I asked friends for photos of their immigrant parents and grandparents, while I did not include them, most did share stories with me of their families journeys to this country. These immigrant faces interspersed with blank pods…the unknown/unidentified… anonymous. I incorporated ‘rends’ in the ‘fabric’ that represent ‘keriah’, the Jewish tradition of tearing ones clothing when a family member dies as the ritualized expression of anguish.
I am truly anguished by how we, both in this country and around the world are treating immigrants/migrants/persons wishing to escape the horrors of which they are fleeing.
